Winter Rockfish…

It’s never too early to start thinking about the upcoming rockfish season… it’ll be here before we know it!!  We’ll be watching this year’s migration as the fall progresses… hopefully these impressive fish will show up a little early – just like last year!  Typically we start to see them around the first of the year… it was December in 2010 so you never know… We are saving dates for folks already – anyone interested please let us know so we can put you on the calender!!

Upcoming Action

With summer still in full force we forget about all the fun the winter time offers on the outer banks..Ocean run stripers were here in full force last year and we expect another great run this year..They generally arrive the first week of Jan and thats really when we start to target them..In January  I will be busy duck hunting  and captain Ernest Doshier of GECKO sportfishing in Ocracoke will be running the FISTFUL..geckosportfishing.com.Ernie is great and will put you in the meat…In Feb I will be back ..We have plenty of dates open but weekends are starting to fill up…One thing we do offer is a complete lodging package..Our lodging is provided a stones throw away from the boat soundfront with spectacular winter sunsets over pirates cove marina we can also arrange meals.Lodging is an additional $100 per night. Its a fun way to spend a couple of days for a little winter time fishing..Full day trips only.. $975 for the day..If we have to travel an extended length to get to the fish we may add a fuel surcharge of up to $150 may be added.GIVE US A CALL …

July 16th

The bluefish continue to dominate the nearshore waters surrounding the inlet for our half days..Multiple fish on at the time are common problems and lots of action for all of our anglers..What they lack in size they make up for in  rod bending action which is great for kids of all ages..A half day is about getting out on the water, enjoying the beauty of the ocean and the outer banks..Its not about catching blue marlins , tunas , and mahi. Its about good times with friends and family..Thats what we like to see..

July 2nd

Great nearshore action continues up and down the beach..Bluefish and spanish mackeral make up most of the catches with a drum here and there and an occasional cobia and shark appearance.Great family fun and its super easy to enjoy..Here are a few more drum pics.

Spring and Summer on the way!

With all the cold weather hanging around it’s hard to believe spring will ever get here…but it’s on the way!! Spring time is HATTERAS time for the Fistful boat and we are getting ready to head south in the next month for both OFFSHORE fishing in the Gulf Stream (Chasing DOLPHIN, TUNA, WAHOO, BLUES and WHITES and SAILS and more!) and NEARSHORE trips (for SPANISH MACKERAL, KING MACKERAL, BLUEFISH, and everything else close to the beach!)… our trips in the spring are run out of Hatteras Inlet and we typically stay until the first week of June before heading back to Pirate’s Cove for the Summer rush… In the mean time… we are currently running trips as hard as we can on our 23 Maycraft for the INSHORE SOUND ROCKFISH…  Tons of fun on light tackle and lots of fish everywhere!!  Please don’t hesitate to call or email us for more information on any of our upcoming trips…Inshore, Nearshore, and to the gulf stream!

Wed March 9th Report

Just catching up with what we have been doing over the last few weeks..Fishing in the sound has been great since the end of Feb and will continue over the next 5 weeks or so..We had a few ocean rock trips that saw good fishing however the fish have migrated further North now and are pretty much out of our range..We were very fortunate to have them here this year…The upcoming month we will be fishing in the sound for STRIPED BASS and smaller fish such as white and yellow perch on light tackle or ur favorite fly rod..Great light tackle fishing and fun for everyone..We consider these our light tackle , light sea , light fee trips…We run these trips on our inshore boats (21 regulator and 23 may craft) ..Lodging , meals and fishing packages are available..252-395-1907  Karl

Tuesday March 8th Inshore rockfish

We made a half day out of a blow day for Rich Hahn and his dad from New Jersey..Water conditions were not ideal in the sound today but the fish still gave us the action we were looking for.We managed to catch some nice fish on the cast before swithing over to trolling with the the light tackle..When we would hit them we would bend over three or four rods at the time making for some fast action. We kept a limit of fish for dinner and ended the afternoon with 25 or so fish..Really enjoyed having you guys with us today and thank you for the laughs and business..You can see dad had fun, he even caught one on my little girls pink pole..

Rockfish (Feb 18, 2011)

The rock in the river are starting to pop!  Incredible action a few days ago and good stuff today… still a bit hit or miss but it is so good to see them start to show up already!  Hopefully the nice spring-like weather today will start to be a habit and we are seeing this year’s crazy cold winter lose its foothold… We are still booking spring river and sound trips that target these athletic fish on light tackle – SUPER FUN!!  Packages are available with or without lodging… pick your dates and give us a call!
