Changing gears…

Fishing reports are usually a little slim from the Fistful boat this time of year as we switch gears for the upcoming Duck Season (opens November 12!!).  We are still running trips both nearshore and offshore as we prepare for the Ducks… Fall is an awesome time to go!!  As for the waterfowl… we are watching the migration and there are great reports from up north pertaining to this year’s hatch… the ducks are on the move!!  We have a some scattered openings left with Karl plus several days available to put you with partnering guides… flooded timber, marsh, open water, you name it – it’s a blast!!

Pretty Work Jimmy!

Reports have been slim the last week due to a last minute trip to kick off the up-coming duck season… what a blast!! I’ll post pictures from the trip as soon as I get them loaded… hopefully the pictures will relieve everybody as much as it did us to see the number of ducks in their first leg of the migration – unbelievable action in an absolutely great  location with good friends and fellow hunters at the X!!! (ha!)  Happy to see we had a great hatch of ducks this year and very thankful for all the good lord has given us..The outdoors in any venture is something to be respected, valued, and appreciated. Don’t forget that the most important thing is experiencing what is right in front of you and we like it when they are right in front of you…The truest form..

We did make it back just in time for Karl to get out with Jim and Jimmy for a little short season timber action this morning… we are always so thankful to get to spend time with good friends… no matter where we are!  Jimmy marched through the swamp like a pro with Dad tracking close behind and worked hard to bag this beautiful pair of Wood Ducks… the drake was in full plumage – what a gorgeous sight to see!  Nice work!!!  Awesome way to kick off the 2011/2012 season kiddo… Congratulations!!!!!

Back to Pirates Cove June 4th

Apon arriving in our home port on Friday we where greeted with a half day booking for Saturday..What a great crowd to fish with to welcome us back. The bluefish action was good and we also caught a few spanish mackeral..Thanks guys for a great trip and we look forward to next time.Happy birthday..

My main man Mike Cribs

Mike is no slouch when it comes to fishing himself or duck hunting for that matter..Hes been hunting with me for six years now and we have become great friends.Allways good to see you YOU SOLID BLOCK OF ICE you…Slow going for the entire fleet in Hatteras this day with busted conditions and scattered grass..We did manage to scrape out a catch of dolphin and blackfin tunas.

Youth Turkey Day

This past Saturday was youth day for the spring turkey season 2011..We had an unbelievable hunt with more action then expected in the 25 plus knt winds..Started the morning out locating a gobbler still on the roost..Shortly after getting into posistion the turkey flew down from his perch and worked nicely to the call with 2 hens.He was very vocal and presented a 30 yd shot for my youngster who just didnt feel comfortable pulling the trigger. It happens..So we started over and headed to another farm walked down the path (10 am) hit the call and there he is.We get into posistion and watch him strut his stuff for over an hour in the same place.A pair of geese landed between us and the Tom plus he had a hen with him.So finally the geese leave then hen leaves and he starts coming..When he finally decided to come he came quick and presented young Daniel with a nice shot..Three big blasts and no turkey..Oh well he had a great time and so did I and everyone involved.Would have liked to have seen that one go down for him but we will get him next time. Thanks for a great hunt.

PRETTY

I like this image..Notice the hunter on the left of the photo and the STRUTTER between the trees coming to me..I am working the ole boy to him from about 10 yds back. This bird was in another field with two hens and I worked him into this smaller field threw a gap of trees that divided the two..Once he came into this smaller 3 acre field he strutted the entire way across and roared tripple gobbles over and over..He worked nicely into the 25 step range..This hunt took about 15 minutes to develop.. I snapped this image just before the shot on this true trophy strutter that scored 77.5 points..Inch and 3/4 spurs , 11 and a half inch beard and he tipped the scale at 24 pound..Mighty pretty..Classic example of how a run and gun hunt should go…

TURKEY SEASON Cast and Blast

We operate FISTFUL sportfishing under the name ALBEMARLE OUTFITTERS..As a full service outfitter we offer it all and spend every day outside on the water or in the woods…For those of you who do not know, Karl is a very accomplished caller and has 4 state championship duck calling contests to prove it as well as 30 plus other turkey , swan and goose calling contests. He took his first paying party of hunters at the ripe age of 15..His first hunters then I am proud to say are still hunting and fishing with him now…With turkey season quickly aproaching we have very limted days available to hunt..Just wanted to let everyone know that we do have 4 two day hunts left.We only do a maximum of 14 turkey hunts to assure we give you the best chance for your spring gobbler.WE DONT PUT YOU IN A GROUND BLIND AND MAKE YOU SIT AROUND FOR A TURKEY.We go to them and call them in like its suppost to be done either off the tree or by locating and pursuit..The cast and blast deal covers your hunting in the morning and light tackle rockfishing in the afternoon on the Albemarle sound..Max 2 hunters per trip and a two day minimum.
