Carolina Boat Builders Tournament 2024!

A massive CONGRATULATIONS all the winners but especially to the boys on the FISTFUL for your 2nd place overall finish in the CAROLINA BOAT BUILDERS TOURNAMENT!!!  Wohoo Pretty Work everybody!!!!

This Billfish Tournament was started over 20 years ago as a scholarship fundraiser for our local youth of boat building, commercial fishing, and charter fishing families.  Originally started in honor of (Boat Builder) Taylor Harrison to provide help with educations expenses for his family after his death… it has expanded over the years to a major contributor for all the kids in the maritime industry of Dare County.

The tournament is open to everyone and is especially dear locally.  We have an amazing history of local boat builders that create masterpiece vessels infamous around the world for their design, beauty, and fishing prowess… it all started in back yard sheds over the winter and has evolved into a fascinating and renowned industry still proudly lead by our local boys!  2 of the top 3 boats this year were built by Buddy Cannady right here in Manteo (Go Fistful and Trophy Hunter!!!)

We took a break from the near-shore scene and headed offshore with the rest of the fleet and private boats to participate in the Alice Kelly benefit tournament today… always a great time!!  Tons of fun and supporting a great cause all at one go 🙂  Thanks to Tiffany, Holly, and Shanna for joining us to participate in this all women’s tournament!!  We didn’t get into the billfish bite like we were hoping to but in true Fistful style brought in some meat and had a ball!!  The Pirate’s Cove Billfish Tournament is going on all week… everyone is always welcome to come down, walk the docks, and be a part of this annual event!!

Pirate’s Cove Tournament Week

Don’t forget this week is the 28th Annual Pirate’s Cove Billfish Tournament…this tournament attracts anglers from all over the world and produced the NC State Record Blue Marlin just 3 year’s ago weighing in at 1228.5 lbs!  This is always an extra exciting week at the Cove and you don’t have to be in the Tournament to join in the fun… The week kicks off with a boat decorating contest this Saturday at 6:00 pm as part of the 22nd Alice Kelly Memorial Ladies Tournament, then the girls head offshore to fish and support this great benefit cause on Sunday… The Billfish Tourney starts on Tuesday with boats fishing through Friday.  All the details can be found on the Pirate’s Cove website.  Come down and check out the stats, the standings, the catches, and all the fun when the boats get in each afternoon and give us a call if you just want to get out on the water to enjoy a great half, 3/4, or full day trip with your friends and family… we still have some openings during tournament week and would love to get you on the water!
