Rockfish mania

It’s not new news to anybody that even half way pays attention to the rockfish that the fish are here… This season was predicted to start early due to the cold weather and perfect water temperatures… and that prediction has proven true so far!  Nice fish up to this point and plenty close to the beach… We have been busy with duck season but the temptation was just too much not to squeeze in a few trips in the afternoon after the hunts are over…  Especially with the incredible weather the last few days!  Beware the parade on the road from the north and from the west…every trailer-able boat from Chesapeake to Raleigh has been headed this way!

Uncle Dougie

Nice fish Doug!!

Grand Slam Week

These guys had a Northeastern North Carolina grand slam this week!! DUCKS, DEER, and now ROCKFISH to finish up the trip!  They’ve been hard at it today…up and in a duck blind before dawn and were tough enough to fire out this afternoon to chase down some nice rockfish… for a crowd that has never reeled in much more than a nice river bass – they did an amazing job!  Thank you so much Steve, Derek, and Phillip!!  We loved meeting you all and we’ll see you in March!!  AO

Early Christmas…

It is typically the end of December or First of the Year before we start to see the ocean rockfish migration get down our way; however, Christmas may be here early this year!  Reports from our neighboring Virginians and several North Carolina boats include nice catches of these impressive fish with several citations already brought to the docks!  The schools are scattered and still predominately in the northern waters but should follow the bait south as the month goes on.  We are busy this time of year with our guide service (deer and waterfowl) so we have had little time to see for ourselves but will keep track of what’s going on through the rest of the fleet…the water temperature is getting right though and everyone is hopeful for an early arrival this season!

Happy Thanksgiving!

This time of the year we all seem to do a little better job of slowing down and remembering all that we have to be thankful for… we should strive to do that all year, not just over the holidays.  Family, friends, health, mother nature and all she provides, the hunters and anglers we get to spend time with, good weather days, happiness and so much more can all be taken for granted so easily… we are so thankful for all we have and all the wonderful things in our lives.  Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!

ROCKFISH on the way…

Time to start thinking about the BIG rock!  They are on the way…we are looking forward to this year’s arrival… This is always one of our favorite times of the year!  We have just a few days left available in January and several dates still open in February (but they are starting to fill up…)… Let us know as soon as possible so we can hold the date.  Our booking calender is still under construction so just email or call either number [ (252) 395 – 1907 or (252) 455 – 1595]  any time for more information…

Inland Rockfish

Rockfishing in the sound is picking up!  Lots of nice fish…plenty of action.  All our rockfish are caught with light tackle – trolling, casting, or jigging.  Light equipment adds to the excitement and what a meal these guys make!

Dolphin!

The dolphin showed up in droves this day… always great action and incredible eating!  This is a fish we never get tired of seeing (or catching!)  Almost always plentiful somewhere in the warm waters of summer off our coast, these fish are amazingly athletic and can show up in schools numbering in the hundreds behind the boat.  Bailer size fish were the norm for us this season with several nice gaffers thrown in the mix.  Our trips departing both Hatteras and Oregon Inlets saw plenty of these guys all summer… always a great time!
